The NCCAOM is the only national organization that validates entry-level competency in the practice of acupuncture and Oriental medicine (AOM) through professional certification. Currently there are over 17,600 actively certified NCCAOM National Board-Certified Diplomates. National Board Certification or a passing score on the NCCAOM certification examinations are documentation of competency for licensure as an acupuncturist by 46 states plus the District of Columbia. The Veteran’s Administration (VA) has also set NCCAOM national board certification as its primary credential for acupuncturists in its treatment centers, hospitals, and outpatient referral system.

To ensure that NCCAOM continues to assure the safety and well-being of the public and to advance the professional practice of acupuncture and Oriental medicine, NCCAOM has exclusively retained Nonprofit HR to assist in the recruitment efforts for its next Chief Executive Officer (CEO), following the retirement of the current CEO, Dr. Kory Ward-Cook. As the primary spokesperson for NCCAOM, the CEO will promote and enhance NCCAOM’s visibility and influence and provide leadership for the design and implementation of NCCAOM programs nationally and worldwide.

The CEO is also responsible for providing leadership for the certification and other credentialing programs to ensure that the programs demonstrate the highest standard of quality and continue to serve the professional development needs of its National Board-Certified Acupuncturists, as well as other professionals in acupuncture and Oriental medicine through credentialing and providing an internationally recognized continuing education provider and course approval program (i.e., NCCAOM Professional Development Activities Program). The CEO will advance the organization’s mission and goals by actively seeking and developing relationships with industry partners, other professional organizations, and governmental and non-governmental agencies to increase awareness of NCCAOM’s mission and optimize opportunities to broaden its reach and influence.

The CEO must be a visionary leader that leads and facilitates access to capital and other resource development initiatives to enhance and sustain the organization’s financial goals and mission-driven opportunities. The CEO must be able to increase financial resources and programmatic activities over a sustained period of time, including the ability to manage diverse budgets to achieve growth and cost-effective results. The CEO must have a demonstrated record of providing vision and partnership within an association and a record of fiscal responsibility along with the ability to grow the resources of an organization.

The ideal candidate will have a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline along with a CAE certification. The successful candidate will possess, at a minimum, a graduate degree and 10 years of management experience of which at least five years should include executive association administration and operations experience, to include advocacy, public relations, and accreditation of educational or certification programs experience.
