The organizing committee has developed this conference based upon the multidisciplinary nature of the American Pain Society, integrating physicians, pharmacists, psychologists, nurses, physical therapists and other clinicians (including CAM practitioners) as well as basic and clinical pain scientists. What You Can Expect to GainThis full-day symposium will discuss CAM approaches for the treatment of various pain conditions, discuss the application of advances in pain research (both clinical and basic) to improve our understanding of mechanisms underlying various CAM approaches. Highlighting new scientific technologies, approaches, and findings will better position the CAM research community in its quest for an improved understanding of neurobiological mechanisms and appropriate applications for CAM for treatment of chronic pain. By participating in this meeting, attendees can expect to achieve the following objectives: - Foster scientific discussion in the pain management inter-professional community regarding the public’s increasing use of various CAM modalities for treatment of chronic pain.
- Present the state-of-the-science related to research in CAM with an emphasis on Mind and Body interventions and Natural Products.
- Discuss key challenges in research in these specific emphasis areas of CAM
- Encourage collaborations among clinicians and pain researchers interested in CAM therapies.
The event will include formal didactic sessions, oral abstract sessions, focused workshops and discussion sessions. This preconference symposium will not be offered for continuing education credit.
